Why, you ask?
Because the BS has more slots to fit, and more shield/armour hp.
Battleships are slow, their guns have bad tracking, they have a high signature radius, it takes a long time to even lock a frigate sized target, they are expensive, their mods are expensive, it is very hard to fit them without trained support skills ( maxed cpu/grid and cpu/grid reduction on guns ) etc. New players are generally better off with sticking to cruisers for pve and frigs for pvp.

I am 7 months old and just getting into interceptors.
I could fly a battlecruiser at 2 months, but did better in a thorax. I almost lost a brutix on a level II silence the informant.
Fast forward to today, and I'm still only on battlecruiser. However, I have 2.4m sp in small rail guns and related skills, 6m in engineering, electronics, mechanic, and navigation skills.
In pvp I fly a thorax or frigs (tech ii or tech i)
In that same brutix, I can now solo a 0.0 level III Guristas extravaganza mission and some level 4 missions. In 6 days when I finish hull upgrades 5, I'll be able to put a tech II tank on it.
Then it's medium rails 5 and medium rail spec 5. Then drones for at least 4 months, then large rails 5, and large rail spec, then _maybe_ I'll be ready for my battleship....
New players should not be flying battleships because it's like a toddler sitting on a harley, you can't even reach the gear shifter. I could buy one right now, but I won't because I'm not ready for it. I'd rather spend my money on my new techii tank for the brutix and bide my time. If I fly a ship, I'd prefer to be very dangerous in it, not a marshmallow with some extra armor and powergrid 8)
I don't want to be one of those people crying on the forums about losing their BS on a level 4 mission in empire LOL.
A BS without sig analysis 5 and sig amp or booster 2's? >shudders<
It's crazy talk. I have both and wish my _inty_ locked a little faster. That's one example of 50 I could give that new players should't be in a battleship without the skills they need to _fly_ one.
